Santa Fe/ Wichita part 1

Kevin and I left at about 2 bound for Wichita November 3, 2006.
We had enjoyed a week with my favorite son, Roy. We had flown him out from Mississippi to visit with Kevin after his long absence.
We packed up the car dropped Roy off at the airport and left Waco for Wichita.
It was a good trip, but we saw a horrific wreck on south bound I 35. That always puts a damper on a trip.
We got to Wichita about... Hell I don't even remember what time it was, but shortly after we got to Marc's house his Michelle, her husband Barry and their two son's showed up. The a little later Nicole and her boy friend Matt arrived. We partied for many hours till the Kid's all spread out where ever they could find to sleep and Kev and I slept in the guest room.

More party party party!

The next morning we woke up and I made sausage gravy and home made biscuits for breakfast. It was really good. The sausage was specially made for Marc and Rhonda.
Later that day Rhonda and I went shopping, she needed a couple of things for the trip and I needed some boots.

We tried to nap during the day but without much luck because we were all too excited about the train ride. We had to get to Newton, Ks, by 3:20am to catch the train. Marc wasn't sure where the station was so we left about 12:30 am.. we found the station.. rather "I" did but no one believed me so we drove around some more until they stopped at the Santa Fe RR maintaince yard and asked. Sure enough it was where I said it was.. but the first time we stopped it was closed as the RR worker didn't show up till 1:30. We trekked back to the station, unloaded the car and walked round to the entrance.

We went in and piled all our suitcases up.

We rested, Marc laid down but we started talking to another guy who was waiting... probably about 5 in all were waiting for the train by the time it got there. Meantime however..

The train station is by day a community college so Marc decided to try and break into the science lab and perform some heinous experiments
Some of the people were waiting for the east bound train going to Kansas City and Chicago, well most of them in fact.. we were the only ones heading west.

Waiting for the train:

Finally exactly on time here she rolls:
Naturally everyone was sleeping, but of course none of us could, because we were too excited to be on the train.

End of part 1

To me it looks as if Marc was taking a leak against the Science Lab door! Another point - how come you couldn't keep the camera straight at the party? Were you inebriated? I'm looking forward to Part Two! Santa Fe...Wichita - all gone to look for America...
